The mental representation of a space be it architectural urban or rural, relies on structuring into a whole the visions perceived at different places and periods. The weakening of this highly complex cognitive process may lead to a chaotic representation. Deconstructed spaces is a reflection on the interplay of structure and chaos.
Even a highly deconstructed space may still retain aesthetic qualities. The ideas behind this series of prints are inspired by our research work on wayfinding and spatial cognition in patients with dementia of the Alzheimer type. The outcome of advanced deconstruction may be an empty space, featureless and, I imagine, essentially white. |
